Forklift Batteries

Battery Watering

Correct battery watering is vital when it comes to battery performance and reliability. A poorly watered battery will have many negative effects on the battery life.

Over-Filling

  • Over-filling will cause acid spills over your battery tray, forklift and floor causing corrosion.
  • Acid spill will also cause electrical tracking to occur also referred to as earth leakage, which can interfere with the running of the forklift, causing productivity downtime.
  • Earth leakage will also increase the RISK of electrical sparking.
  • Over-filling and acid spills will reduce the concentration of acid inside the cell reducing the specific gravity levels resulting in decreased capacity of your battery.
  • The decreased capacity will shorten actual forklift run time, giving you poor productivity increasing operating cost.

Under-Filling

  • Lack of water will cause electrolyte level to drop and expose lead plates to atmosphere and dry.
  • Poor watering will allow plates to suffer from increased temperature and increase cell deterioration, which leads to loss of capacity and shorter run times.
  • Prolonged poor watering procedure will lead to battery failure.

How to Fix Poor Watering

Australian Traction Batteries have a number of solutions. Allow ATB to water and maintain batteries for a fixed fee, taking the risk away. ATB can conduct training programmes for staff with ongoing support. ATB can supply and install different types of watering devices to enable a user friendly watering task.

Whether you are unaware that you have watering problems, or whether you need a solution, ATB qualified staff are available to assist in improving your operations and safe handling of all lead acid battery areas. Contact Us
